William (Bill) Swinton (1900 - 1994)
Born in Kirkcaldy, 1900. He wrote 'The Dinosaurs' in 1934, ( accredited as the first book to offer specialist and general public alike a comprehensive and highly readable account of these ever-fascinating creatures). He also wrote 'Dinosaurs', in 1962.
He was in charge of fossil amphibians, reptiles and birds at the Natural History Museum, where he helped to set up displays of dinosaur specimens in the exhibition halls. At 61 he joined the Ontario Museum in Toronto, and became Director. He died on 12th June 1994 in Toronto.
